It was such a pleasure to photograph sweet baby Grayson a couple of weeks ago. I also had the privilege of capturing mom and dad’s pregnancy at one of my new favorite outdoorsy locations here in San Diego. It’s so fun to meet the parents-to-be and feel their excitement and anticipation during the maternity session, then to see that love and joy when baby arrives… I love my job

… since I have updated this poor blog! It’s been quite an eventful year, and as I am gearing up to revamp the blog and website, I figured I would take this time to show you some of the sweet faces I have been honored to photograph over the past 12ish months. I am working on a NEW website and blog, and I am so excited to show you a new and improved Sophie Crew Photography! First, let’s start off with a few of my sweet newborns from this year… gosh how I love photographing these sweet little ones! I love being able to come to the homes of new parents to capture their brand new babies…
And a few gorgeous mamas to be… maternity photography is such a beautiful thing. I love being able to capture the excitement in their eyes…

It was so nice to meet the B family just a few weeks ago. Mom and dad have three of the most gorgeous little girls ever, and are so excited to be expecting their fourth baby – a BOY! It’s funny because I have two girls, and I always say that if I ever had a 3rd baby and it were a boy, I would have no idea how to be a ‘mommy to a boy’ by now… I am guessing it’s similar for mommy B! We had a great time at the beach during our mini-maternity session despite the gloomy overcast weather. I am so excited to meet their little guy in just a few weeks!
I love photographing newborn babies, I really do! Each newborn session for me is so exciting, as I walk into the homes of brand new parents who are just beaming with love and excitement for their new little one, and are so excited for our newborn portrait session. I always thought it would be great for expectant mommies searching for a newborn photographer to see what a typical session looks like. I put this video together just for you, mom and dad to be! I love photographing babies, and hope that this ‘behind the scenes’ peek at a typical newborn session will help give you an idea of what to expect for our session.
I work in the comfort of your own home, and our sessions last approximately 3 hours, and allow for a fun, casual and relaxed time, which allows for plenty of stress-free nursing/feeding, cuddling and prop/set changes. I love capturing a variety of sweet posed sleepy newborn shots as well as more candid interaction with mom, dad, a sibling – just capturing those precious moments. Newborns are photographed within the first 10 days of life, as they are still quite sleepy and bendy at that age for poses that mimic those inside the womb. So many moms and dads tell me how happy they are that I came to them, because in those first few days of having your newborn home, things are crazy hectic. As you can see in the video, I don’t need a lot of space – just an area near a window. I bring everything with me, and take special requests as to which props you want for me to bring along. I am constantly finding new props, blankets and hats for our sessions. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Sophie Crew Photography!
I am SO excited to be sharing this blog post. Little Ethan belongs to my very good friend L – you have seen her beautiful daughter (and Ava’s BFF) Brooke on my blog before – she’s the gorgeous blonde Mr. Ethan came one week earlier than planned. L was so excited to have just gone on maternity leave and take advantage of having one week all to herself to prepare for Ethan’s scheduled C-section arrival. Well, baby boy decided to not give his mama any down time – he came on her first day of Maternity leave! He is such a sweet baby, and he looks just like big sis. Congrats, A family on your gorgeous family Love ya!
Baby Jordan was so sweet…. and a dream baby to photograph! He slept the entire time, didn’t pee or poop on the blankets, let me pose him without a fuss – we were done with our session in no time! I just saw him today after a 6 weeks and holy moly has he grown!!! He was only one week old when I photographed him, and it just serves as a
reminder that these little ones grow faster than you can blink. Congratulations, K family on the birth of your gorgeous son!
You may remember baby Darla’s gorgeous mama and dad from this maternity session. Well, sweet Darla was born just a few weeks ago and I had the pleasure of meeting her at just a few days old. She was such a sweetie and I had a great time spending the morning with Baby D, mommy and her auntie. Not only did I enjoy our time together, but to make things even more awesome, mama R had prepared the most beautiful plate of YUMMMMMMY Baklava for me to bring home. Thank you allowing me the opportunity to photograph sweet Darla, T family!
Ohhh Baby Troy is 6 months! The last time you saw this cutie pie, he was just a few days old. You can see his newborn session from this summer here and mom and dad’s gorgeous maternity session here.
It was so much fun seeing this little guy again – such a handsome guy, with lots of personality! Lock up your daughters, mamas, because little Troy is going to be quite the hunky boy! So, I hadn’t photographed at this location in a couple of months, so I didn’t realize how early they closed their gates. We were just getting into putting Troy in a couple of baskets and props when we heard the park ranger over the loudspeaker ‘We are closing the gates in 5 minutes!’ Yikes!! We rushed to get a few shots and luckily, I knew of a 2nd location nearby where we were able to finish up. Note to self: check park hours! Thank goodness for the ‘spring forward’ last weekend – gates are open later now, phew!
It was so much fun meeting this happy and FUN family of five! We are so lucky to be able to shoot at the beach while other parts of the country are covered in cold snow. I love San Diego! Anyways, these kiddos were just getting over being sick – pneumonia is never fun, especially for the kids! They did great and we had a great time running around the beach and being silly. Meet sweet Caroline – isn’t she adorable? I had a great time photographing this little sweetie a few weeks ago. When I arrived at her house, mom was so excited to show me all of the cute pink accessories she had picked out for little Caroline’s session. How adorable is that tutu!
