Baby Samuel | San Diego Newborn Photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Meet sweet Samuel.  Such a little cuddly love to photograph – he slept and slept and slept.. I think he woke up just once towards the end of our session, but totally let me pose him during his little snooze.  It was so fun to chat with mom, auntie and daddy during our time together – Samuel’s parents have traveled the world with the military, and even lived in Italy, so of course we had to talk about that (I’m half Italian myself :) )

Here are a few of my faves from our session… don’t you love the one of him smiling in the crate?  Funny – I had him on the ground in the crate and for this kind of shot, the legs don’t usually keep that position for too long, so you have to shoot fast.  I was still not high up enough to get the whole crate in the frame so I turned one of my buckets upside down to stand on it with the help of dad holding my other hand to balance me… it was going to be a super quick shot for that reason – one snap then I needed to get off the bucket… well little Samuel KNEW it was ‘the’ one shot he would smile for – seriously such perfect timing!  What a cutie!

Yes, I am still alive!  Sorry, things get a bit busy this time of year, so blogging has been taking a backseat lately, whoopsie :)

Meet sweet Maya – pretty girl!  I met mom at Mamafest last May as a vendor as well – she and her husband are the awesomeness behind Murasaki Media – check them out.. super cute videography!  Little Maya was such a cutie during our session – we had a lot of fun getting a variety of poses and headbands on her :)  Thank you, F family for allowing me the opportunity to photograph your sweet girl ;)

Wow, it’s been a while since my last blog post… my ‘need to blog’ folder is going to explode!  So sorry!!

Remember these beautiful soon to be big sisters from mama’s maternity session a couple of months ago?  Wellllll, they are now ALL big sisters to one handsome little guy, Eli!  Yay!  I had so much fun spending the day with this beautiful family for Eli’s newborn session.  Seeing big sisters run around during our session made me so happy – knowing that Eli will have some wonderful playmates when gets older.  I love this family!  Anyways, when mom contacted me a  while back to set up our maternity and newborn sessions, she had only one request for the newborn session – that we get baby boy in her husband’s flight helmet – mission accomplished pee and poop free!! Yay!!  B family, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of such a special time in your family’s life.

Baby Makena | San Diego Newborn Photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

I am wayyyy behind in blogging – this month has been super busy not only with tons of brand new babies (ahem, 9 months ago was Valentines day, lol :) but also with beautiful families having their yearly holiday portraits done.  I am slowly getting to blog past sessions… we might have a few end of the year ‘ketchup’ (catch up) blog posts featuring all session – stay tuned!

Meet sweet baby Makena!  I had the honor of photographing this sweet baby girl last month.  She was such a cutie, and did you see that ginormous smile she gave us (scroll down now :) )  Cute, huh!  It was so fun picking out headbands and hats with Makena’s mommy – I bring so many styles with me that it’s hard to pick sometimes, lol!  Anyway, we had a great time, and baby Makena was just the cutest.  Thank you, S family for allowing me to capture your family’s special moments :)

Double the fun! | San Diego newborn twin photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Friday, October 14th, 2011

These little twin guys were SO much fun to photograph!  We actually had quite the memorable newborn session just a few weeks ago… I arrived at their home and mom and I went over where we would set up, and how the session would go.  Little guys H and L were all ready to go – bellies full, house warmed to the perfect temperature, television on for some background noise and entertainment… so I set up and had juuuust gotten my camera white balanced, ready to start shooting, when poof – the TV turned off.  Hmm, that’s odd, oh well… since I am a natural light photographer, I didn’t need electricity anyways as I was using the light from the sliding glass door.  A few minutes passed and dad decided to check out the problem – turns out, all of San Diego was out of power!  Like the whole county!  All the way from Tijuana, Mexico to some folks in Riverside.  Say what!?  So dad kept us updated with the latest San Diego blackout news while mom and I enjoyed our little models.  We shot for the next three hours, and these little guys were just so adorable… we even got a few smiles from ‘big’ brother.  Oh and check out those cute hats – do you remember the triplet newborn babies I photographed a couple of months ago?  Well just like for those little dudes, I had my mail lady whip up a couple of  ’twin’ sets for me again this time – she rocks, and she’s fast!

Mom and dad are rock star twin parents – they are totally organized with feeding and sleeping times… totally necessary when you have two!  Thank you so much, B family, for allowing me the opportunity to photograph your adorable twin boys.  They are going to have so much fun growing up and being best buddies.

Baby Chloe | Downtown San Diego Newborn Photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Happy almost-weekend everyone!  I can’t believe I have let the blog go a week since updating… I have so many great newborn, family and maternity sessions to catch up on blogging.  Bad me!

Meet sweet Chloe.  She was such a cute chunk of love!  Mommy called me when Chloe was already past the ’10 day window’ of newborn curliness and sleepy period, so we had to get her session in as soon as we could.  I met her at just over two weeks old, and although she made me work for it, we got some great shots of this little sweetie.  At two weeks old, babies begin to sleep less deeply and begin to grow out of their womb ‘curl’, which makes it more difficult to get those perfect poses, but Chloe sure did a great job of posing!

I had  a great time photographing sweet Chloe – thank you, C family for a wonderful session!

And then there were THREE! | San Diego Triplet Photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Meet newborn babies Brian, David and Nicholas – San Diego’s newest set of adorable triplets!  I am so excited to share their session with you all.

When mom inquired about a session for her three almost-7 week old newborns, I was super excited but knowing that they were already several weeks old, we needed to schedule a session sooner rather than later.  So we did, and planned for just a few days later.  Brian, David and Nicholas were in the NICU for their first five weeks of life.  I responded to mom’s email and excitedly envisioned three tiny babies with matching hats and matching blankets, and my awesome visions danced around in my head – I was full of ideas, until I realized I didn’t have any matching boy hats, and there was no way that I would be able to find some ready to ship on Etsy, so I was in a panic – where would I find them in just 3 days!  Well, luckily I have the most awesome of mail ladies right here in town – she’s the one who ships out all of my client orders, and she knits!  I ran down to the mail place and asked if she would be able to make a few, and she happily agreed!  So not only were they made in two days time, but she made two beautiful sets of them with matching blankets and they were SO much cooler than I envisioned – wohoo!!  By the way, I didn’t just choose blue, red and green for fun – mom and dad have babies color coded in those colors to tell them apart those first few weeks :)

I brought my friend and fellow photographer, Melanie along for the fun – she is a rock star assistant!  No, I mean she rocks, she is not affiliated with any rock bands (that I  know of, lol).   When we arrived, we immediately went to work, getting ‘stations’ set up for the babies.  We set up the ‘prop’ area downstairs, and the ‘beanbag’ area upstairs, so that we would be able to photograph these cuties more efficiently – we knew that one would be sleeping when the others would not, and we needed to be ready for the chance of all three boys sleeping at the same time so we could get the ‘together’ shots.

Our session went great, and I am so pleased with what we captured.  These beautiful boys are going to grow up so quickly, so capturing their tiny cuteness at just a few weeks old makes me super happy :)  How awesome is it that Brian, David and Nicholas will grow up to be best buddies and will always have someone to play with!

Baby Miles | San Diego Newborn Baby Photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

I had the pleasure of meeting Baby Miles a few weeks ago when his parents brought him to San Diego for a family reunion /vacation at the beach for a week.  Mom and dad are also photographers so it’s always cool to talk shop with fellow photogs.  They are wonderful wedding photographers in San Francisco – you can check out their website here.  Baby Miles was already 4 weeks old for our newborn session, so getting those curly poses was a bit more of a challenge, but we got some beautiful shots and he did great!  Big brother Sebastian was such a cutie too – he adores his baby brother and you can totally tell his parents are photographers – he takes direction super well.   It was a pleasure to meet you, J and K!  I enjoyed photographing your beautiful boy.  Have a great rest of your summer, and come back to San Diego soon!

Baby Bradley | San Diego Newborn Photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

You might remember baby Bradley’s beautiful parents from their beach maternity photography session a few weeks ago – you can see it HERE.  Well, Bradley finally made his entrance into this world just a few weeks ago, and I was lucky enough to meet him at just a few days old.  It’s funny how mommies already know their babies at such a young age.  Mommy warned me that little guy was due for a poop because it had been a while.  Well, like clockwork, he did just that… all over my shirt and pants, lol!  I’m so used to poop and pee on blankets but little man will go down in the records as being the first to ummm… poop on his photographer, hehe.

We had a great morning, enjoying our little Bradley’s sweet poses and adorable expressions.  I had just gotten a couple of new props so I was excited to be able to use them on him for the first time.  What a sweet little dude.  Congratulations, G family – it was my pleasure to capture Bradley’s newborn sweetness!

The Newborn Session | San Diego Newborn Photographer | Sophie Crew Photography

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

I love photographing newborn babies, I really do!  Each newborn session for me is so exciting, as I walk into the homes of brand new parents who are just beaming with love and excitement for their new little one, and are so excited for our newborn portrait session.  I always thought it would be great for expectant mommies searching for a newborn photographer to see what a typical session looks like.  I put this video together just for you, mom and dad to be!  I love photographing babies, and hope that this ‘behind the scenes’  peek at a typical newborn session will help give you an idea of what to expect for our session.

I work in the comfort of your own home, and our sessions last approximately 3 hours, and allow for a fun, casual and relaxed time, which allows for plenty of stress-free nursing/feeding, cuddling and prop/set changes. I love capturing a variety of sweet posed sleepy newborn shots as well as more candid interaction with mom, dad, a sibling – just capturing those precious moments. Newborns are photographed within the first 10 days of life, as they are still quite sleepy and bendy at that age for poses that mimic those inside the womb. So many moms and dads tell me how happy they are that I came to them, because in those first few days of having your newborn home, things are crazy hectic.  As you can see in the video, I don’t need a lot of space – just an area near a window.  I bring everything with me, and take special requests as to which props you want for me to bring along. I am constantly finding new props, blankets and hats for our sessions. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Sophie Crew Photography!

Enjoy the video!!
